"Siqiniq Nipirtuq " is Inuktitut for "sunset" which is the time that most of the world goes to bed but here in Salluit, Nunavik, Quebec, Canada ,and the rest of the North, we are still wide awake taking in sun that never goes down. So this camp is not a conventional 9am-4pm program, instead we at The Siqiniq Nipirtuq do as the Inuit do starting at 1pm and going until 6pm while the sun is still burning bright in the sky. There is definitely an abundance and variety of youth programming during the school year in Salluit which strongly help youth to cope with their challenging life circumstances. However when summer vacation comes around there is a heavy absence of these programs, hence, there is the arrival of summer camps. Summer camps have been present in Salluit for the last 4 summers, and we at The Sirqiniq Nipirtuq Camp wish to bring them to the next level - giving youth recreational skills and knowledge that they can carry on after the camp and well as having them engage their community.

VISION

We wish for an evolved idea of summer camps in Nunavik so they that reach beyond their seasonal limitation and leave youth with more than just an enjoyable summer. Our hope is to give youth recreational skills and knowledge that they may carry long into the future and to see them becoming actors in uplifting their community and culture.

MISSION

We aim to provide a variety of specialized activities in the areas of music, martial arts, circus, marionnette and "Do It Yourself" (DIY) projects, all in order to impart skills to youth in manner that they may continue to employ these skills in absence of the program. At the same time we ensure that campers stay connected to their home through traditional activties such as throatsinging, inuit drumming, carving and inuit tatoos, and engaging their community through community meals, markets and anti-vandalism projects.
